Undergraduate Summer Research Internship
The Faculty Undergraduate Summer Research Internship programme is launched to offer CUHK engineering undergraduate students with funding support to undertake a research project under the supervision of professors in summer. The objectives are to give students exposure to research environment, and grooms them for graduate studies and overseas summer research schemes.
Non final-year engineering undergraduate students with a CGPA of 3.3 or above are eligible. Priority will be given to senior-year students.
Students who are planning and/or are going to participate summer programmes; or taking summer courses overseas for more than three weeks accumulatively; or taking more than three weeks of accumulated leave are NOT eligible for the internship programme.
The scheme is for undergraduate students with research interest to join on the voluntary basis, and it is currently a non-credit bearing programme.
The student will need to approach a professor in the Faculty (in any department) to be his/her supervisor and come up with the project details with the supervisor's approval. For reference, projects completed in Summer 2023 can be found here .”
The student is required to write a 1-page proposal about the research problem and research objective after discussing his/her research ideas with the supervising professor.
It is expected that the student will be attached to a professor/research lab. The prior approval/agreement of which should be obtained by the student.
Participants will have to submit a Progress Report and a Final Report on 8 July 2024 (Mon) and 13 August 2024 (Tue) respectively.
There will be a compulsory Poster Presentation at the end of the summer for participants to present their research results. Awards will be given to the top 10% projects assessed by a committee.
To attract high calibres and incentivize good quality of research works, financial support would be provided for participants whose works are exemplary and being accepted by conference during September in the same year to May in the following year. Nomination should be done via the project supervisor.
A research grant of up to HK$10,000 will be awarded to each student for each participant upon completion of the research project with earnest effort well recognized by the supervising professor.

VeriGuide Checking
All progress reports and final reports submitted by participants should undergo the VeriGuide Checking.
- Poster presentation – 30% of the grant with be deducted; and
- Each scheduled meeting with supervisor or tutor or their designates – 5% of the grant will be deducted.
To apply for an internship, please download the application form , and take the following steps:
- Approach a professor and to propose a research project that you would like to work on
- Write a 1-page research proposal in the Application Form about the problem you will study, and what you hope to accomplish
- Get the consent from the professor you consulted to agree to supervise you and sign the form
- Upload the signed Application Form with endorsed research proposal (PDF format)
- Input the required fields and submit your application online
The submission deadline is on 15 April, 2024 (Mon) . Confirmation of submission will be sent to successful applicants by end of May 2024.

Summer Undergraduate Research Program暑期本科生科研实践项目
首届“暑期本科生科研实践项目”(Summer Undergraduate Research Program, SUGRP)将于2021年6月启动,5月中开始报名,是为期 10 周 的短期本科生科研实践项目,因应疫控需要,首届将以线上及线下结合形式进行。
该项目提供一系列理工专业研究课题,范围包括通信、信息工程、电子工程、计算机工程、机器人、能源、材料、化学、物理和数学等,由理工学院各先进领域师资带领及指导,为符合条件的全国顶尖大学的在读精英本科生提供丰富的研究之旅。
作为按中外合作办学条例设立的知名国际化学府,香港中文大学(深圳)拥有国际一流的师资及科研平台,将为入选的学生提供与国际一流大学同等的科研体验及校园文化环境。
首届SUGRP将 面向全国高校在读学生开放申请 ,双向匹配科研导师及学生, 同时 , 成功申请的学生可通过线上及线下参与研究 ,SUGRP将为学生提供校内免费住宿及1000元/月的线下在校科研补助。

The first student exchange programmes was established at CUHK in 1965. Today, the university has more than 200 exchange partner institutions around the world. Each year, CUHK welcomes nearly 1,000 students from both partner and non-partner institutions to study for either a single term or the entire academic year. Course Information
CUHK offers undergraduate and postgraduate level courses under the faculties of Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Science, and Social Science.
Cantonese is the main spoken language in Hong Kong, but CUHK is a multilingual university, with English or Putonghua (Mandarin) used as the languages of instruction for many courses.
Overseas exchange and study-abroad students can take most undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Click here for exceptions.
Course availability is subject to a quota and the final decision of faculties, programmes and units.
Helpful tip! Courses offered by the Faculty of Business Administration and the Faculty of Law are very popular. Consider second choices and make backup plans.
Course Load
At CUHK, one unit or credit is roughly equivalent to one hour of instruction per week. Most three-unit courses feature either three hours of lectures or two hours of lectures and one hour of tutorials per week. Students receive credits for all courses successfully completed, according to the academic standards of the department.

Faculty members from all disciplines are welcome to host international students for summer research attachments under SURP.
The Summer Undergraduate Research Programme (SURP) has been serving as a platform to promote internationalisation by hosting international undergraduate students to undertake short-term research attachments at CUHK during the summer. The programme promotes CUHK’s research strengths and attracts bright-minded students from around the world to pursue postgraduate studies at the University. Since 2014, over 240 students from some 80 overseas institutions have participated in the programme to work with distinguished CUHK faculty members across almost all Faculties.
Running in its 5th year, SURP will take place during 24 June-19 August 2018 and will soon open for applications. Faculty members from all academic disciplines who are enthusiastic to lead students to develop their research skills and are devoted to provide intensive training and on-going guidance to students are welcome to join the programme as host supervisors. Interested faculty members should contact the Office of Academic Links for details.

To provide a channel for undergraduate students around the world to work in both experimental and theoretical projects in the research groups in our Department.
