Include the details that support your central idea from the heart of your story. Don’t forget to use vivid examples to bring your main ideas to life. To make your essay one of a kind, choose your words and expressions with care.

Make sure you build up your essay correctly, as you see in the following example:

The focus of the essay:

My dream is to become a pharmacist. This job will be a great opportunity for me to combine my love for medicine with my passion for making others healthier and happier.

The details:

Pharmacy is the field I’ve always been most interested in. This year I’m going to take a pharmacy class, and I have prepared myself well for it. I’ve read two amazing books on this topic, from time to time I visit pharmacy conferences in my town, and I’ve also subscribed to the Medicine Channel. All of these activities have already assisted me in acquiring some knowledge in this sphere. With this foundation and background information, I am sure that I want to devote my life to this.

A PharmD degree forms just a small part of what I consider to be a means to an end in my lifelong academic and professional endeavor. This long-term objective is the eventual establishment of a pharmaceutical company that designs, administers, and innovates novel drugs. Regardless of the academic path through which it is arrived at, it will eventually involve entering into a Pharmacy postgraduate program. By the end of this program, I shall bind the philosophic, academic, and continuous professional development into an effective service to humanity and the well-being of the general public. I will also use Pharmacy as a fundraising tool for higher-risk Medical Research. This concept is already penned down in a proposal in my home country, and there is every possibility that this might also become a tool in the country for stimulating in-depth sourcing for research as well as promoting a new kind of approach to solving some of these medical problems.

1.1. Personal Background

One reason is because from a young age I knew I wanted to study something, or be involved with something in the medical field, whether it be dentistry, psychology, or oncology. When I was younger, I was always the little girl who would voice my opinion in everything from my class to my parents about anything related to the topic of health. As I grew up, I started to realize just how much I love science. Although my love for science didn't just stop at memorizing the periodic table and cloud types, I found something interesting about the idea of earning a degree that would somehow involve science, but also have a creative side to it. It was appealing, so I put dental school in the back of my mind. I knew my love for creativity and science had to be incorporated with something I love and something that would benefit me, but most importantly, humanity and would be of good use to society. Not to mention, working in the medical field has always been appealing because for various reasons, one of them being the rewards that come from it. Being able to aid or treat those in need was always a desire, and I wasn't aware of how individual a pharmacist's role can be, and how they can also hold an irreplaceable job. The love for pharmacology came to play when I began to understand what it truly meant to have a "white coat" on and what that entailed. I started to formulate my motivation on the same principles outlined in the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia. My love for arts and creativity is influenced because there is much more to a career in pharmacy than meets the eye. Though pharmacists do not "diagnose, nor operate or physically treat a patient's problem/s" like a physician does, the similar duties that go into their job only make me love and pursue it even more. They are responsible for ensuring the safe, proper, and efficacious use of medications by patients.

1.2. Passion for Healthcare

My desire to pursue a career in pharmacy Pharmacy stocks I found that my passion for healthcare was not fulfilled in the hospital or nursing home. So, I turned to retail pharmacy. I have observed several cities and small towns across four states and in various locations of the country. I have observed many different demographics and observed that each location is just as unique as the chemical makeup of each individual. There is a demand for pharmacists in every city and every small town. Yearly retail pharmacy studies have shown that the independent retail pharmacist is one of the most trusted professionals in America. My personal experiences have reflected precisely that. Pharmacy is not just a job, it is a profession and it is what I picture in my future. I look forward to contributing to this great field and ultimately, this great country. An undergraduate degree in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences will not only increase my awareness of the various diverse roles of pharmacy, but will also prepare me for a career that combines my love of science and human interaction. Direct patient care is my passion, and the pharmacist is an integral part of the community and is often the most accessible healthcare provider. Furthermore, I am fascinated by the role of the pharmacist in the education of the public including health-related cultural perceptions and practices. As a photojournalist, I have witnessed not only the importance of communication, especially in international settings, but the need for accessible, cost-effective healthcare around the world, regardless of location, culture, or borders. My investment in pharmacy does not expose the limitation my current undergraduate degree has but highlights the advantage it will bring to the pharmaceutical sciences and to my future pharmacy career.

2. Reasons for Choosing Pharmacy

My mother, who is a practicing pharmacist, first introduced me to the diverse career options within the pharmacy profession. I began studying the field of psychology with the hope of becoming a psychiatrist; however, my interest in psychology gradually declined as I realized that it was not my calling. After in-depth research and careful consideration, I recognize that pharmacy is a unique career where I can pursue my passion of creating a personal and caring rapport with others, as well as a career that intertwines health care with science. Currently, I work as a tutor and mentor at the DeSales Community Education Center (DCEC). From DCEC, I have learned the significance of forging personal connections with individuals regardless of their backgrounds. I believe that through a pharmacy career I will be able to establish a meaningful connection with my patients as my mother does with her customers. I have had many conversations with individuals seeking advice about their medications, and I enjoy the sense of being a familiar touchstone for them to rely on. My desire to pursue a career in pharmacy has further been shaped by my experiences as a student; particularly, my being a student-athlete. As an athlete, I always have had to balance time between my academic work and athletic commitments; in doing so, I recognize the need for proper planning and time management. I attribute my success in my dual commitment as an athlete and a student to discipline opposed to the common notion that athletes are unable to excel academically. Having played soccer for over 13 years now has only solidified my desire to become a knowledgeable, well-rounded individual who is committed to helping others. By being a pharmacy student and a D-I athlete, I want to show others that it's possible to excel in both. Additionally, my experiences in college has allowed me to realize that it is common for many students, not limited to student-athletes, to have stress created by the anxieties of the future and the fear of failure and disappointment. My dedication to becoming a mentor to youth soccer players has made it clear to me that I want to build similarly positive relationships with my future patients.

2.1. Interest in Medications and Their Effects

It is not unusual for many younger children to have the desire to assist or take care of someone similar to themselves. In my case, as with many others who are intrigued by holistic attempts in the effort to take care of people, the fascination has remained, continued to grow, and developed. Though the merits and rewards of such a profession have been well-publicized since the dawn of managed patient care, the career of pharmacy has been repeatedly brought anew to my attention over the past few years by my sister. My excitement is ignited as we discuss, from her viewpoint, what she is studying in school and from my point of view gained from mechanic and band work, the readily available benefits that she encounters. This personal inspiration has intensified my interest in the knowledge-based attainments required by such a career and the merits and roles of pharmacists in patient care that I now consider myself not only as a candidate constant seeker of pharmacy knowledge but further, a future leader and role model for the younger generation. My first encounters with this perspective began when I was 13 years old. My sister suggested a compound as an opportunity to earn money to purchase a pet for myself. Through service to others and medication mechanics, I realized the direct impact of supportive care manifest in a matter of hours or days in the health of a family member and friends. This knowledge to "be beneficial to others" (idea of Seager) has remained important for me through years of high school and collegiate education which has been focused on the inter-relationships and cooperative pursuit of universally applicable advancements for human health and welfare through my degree in pharmaceutical sciences.

2.2. Desire to Help Others through Healthcare

My desire to pursue a career in pharmacy can be attributed to my passion for public service. Indeed, it is inspired by a legacy of service years, and by my desire to contribute in improving the quality of life of the citizens in my country and beyond. Growing up within a humble family, with my mum having been a nurse for 29 years, I learnt through my early years how significant the healthcare workforce was in the society. My decision to pursue a career in pharmacy came after evaluating my innate abilities, personal worth and the need to do something beneficial for society and to fulfill my dream of becoming a top healthcare professional. Recognizing the critical role played by healthcare workers in the society these days, it is my sincere desire to identify and make an effective use of my personal abilities and maximize opportunities that are available. I have seen good nurses, doctors, pharmacists, etc. and I wish I can be one who will contribute to reforming the healthcare system in my community and country at large and whose efforts will be visible to society. Growing in a society where unemployment and poverty rates are very high, the private sector is less performance/interest driven, corruption is more of a tradition, healthcare services are increasingly becoming beyond the reach of many and having to witness the devastating effect of a broken healthcare system, it underscored my desire to pursue a career in pharmacy. Health is very important. No health, nothing. The fees for healthcare services are cumbersome for many households to afford. Patients presume on different types of painkillers as first aid interventions to a range of pathologies in cases they should visit hospitals. My 'desire driven' objective is to become a healthcare professional who will administer top-notch pharmaceutical services to the public and will also participate in the education, enlightenment and re-orientation of individuals regarding the relevance of accurate and adequate healthcare interventions in a sound healthcare system for the country.

2.3. Potential for Advancement and Specialization

Not only does pharmacy allow for a variety of different occupations, but the potential for specialization is seemingly endless. In the retail setting, pharmacy technicians and pharmacists (primarily retail pharmacists) are the generalists. While the pharmacy technician (PT) does need to know the medications themselves and interact with a variety of patients/customers, the role can be a bit limited when it comes to the breadth of knowledge needed to be effective in the job. Pharmacists, however, must be knowledgeable and ready to consult on nearly every aspect of pharmacotherapeutics. Pharmacists are expected to be proficient in the interpretation of a patient's entire medical condition and apply that knowledge to determine the most appropriate treatment via pharmacotherapeutics. In the hospital setting, new roles have been adapted. This includes having separate roles for tech-check-tech verifications, sterile products and general compounding, unit-based/clinical pharmacists, pharmacokineticists, nutritional support pharmacists, robotic inventory management, centralized unit-dose packers, and a host of other roles that are not seen in the retail pharmacy setting. Because my desire is to work in a hospital, the potential for career advancement and growth at the hospital I currently work for excites me. An additional bonus is that nearly all of the former technicians and pharmacists are very happy and satisfied with their jobs, which I can respect and would love for myself. Simply being open to the opportunities that came along with my journey to my career has landed me in a fantastic job.

3. Education and Career Path

One of the main reasons for my desire to pursue a career in pharmacy is the opportunity to work in a hospital. As a pharmacy professional working in a hospital, I will come across a variety of drugs and medical equipment. I feel very passionate about the idea of comprehending the chemical composition and the physical attributes of these medical compounds. The fact that professional relationships play a pivotal role in a pharmacist's daily life also caught my attention. During my many hours volunteering at a pharmacy, I noticed that people appreciate being able to communicate with their pharmacist and that they rely on his or her advice. I realized how important it is to have pharmaceutical staff that will take the time to make people understand what they take and why. In a professional environment, I value the importance of interaction with other staff members, like doctors, nurses, and residents, as well as the relationships I have built with other pharmacists. In a hospital, one must establish good communication with the nursing staff in order to ensure patient safety.

3.1. Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy

On 19 October 2019, I started my four-year course to Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy at the International Medical University (IMU), a course that I have dreamed of for almost a decade. The elaboration of my journey before this fateful day was a retelling of my loyalty to college and immense yearning to become a pharmacist. I chose the field of pharmacy to chase fate after reading the pharmaceutical labeling on a cough syrup label when I was 12. Following the event, I began collecting any pharmaceutical packaging I found and kept them in my makeshift file. I have always kept it until my last day of college. My interest towards science grew rapidly, but it was my early clinical exposure that enabled me to confidently decide to enroll in the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honors) in IMU. My clinical experiences include supervising the making of many simple dosage forms at Soffeterra Professional Pharmacy, a public Victorian-style community pharmacy in Bukit Mertajam that I worked part-time at while I was still attending high school. I was also a pioneer in forming the committee of a non-profit organization that implemented clinical programs for the pharmacy undergraduates, Pertubuhan ILMU Farmasi or the IMU Pharmacy Student Society. My active role as the head of 6 Working-Subcommittees since then has allowed me to hone my time-management and leadership skills. During sixth form, I completed 90 hours of volunteering, seven amongst them required me to supervise the fifth-formers in estimation activities and chemical analysis at the appreciation day of science and mathematics education. The event eventually led to a shield displaying my design of a theme for the day which was committed to enhancing the resemblance of the education and the petri dish molds at the bottom of the acronym beside it.

3.2. Internship and Practical Experience

During my education at Bronx Community College and at Vivo Lamorena, I worked as a pharmacy technician. I was responsible for the machine tools and for cleaning and organizing the pharmacy in my main work in the hospital. I applied my knowledge in the well-being of the patient, in the wellness device, sterilization, pharmacodynamics ways of drug insertion use, route of administration, drug interactions, practice and reading of medical prescription. I faced new opportunities, challenges and solutions daily, which completed the theory I learned in the classroom, and expanded my knowledge on drugs and care with patients. The balance between professional activities and personal life was maintained during this period and over time, by reconciliation and creativity in all areas. I respected the need for rest periods and physical activities, keeping myself up to date with the news in the field of pharmacy, reading national and international scientific publications that focused on disease treatment and prevention, research so that through new technologies, it would benefit healthcare, and instituted voluntary courses for students and children of family members. I collaborated with the training of new professionals, enabling them to have a draft and more effective performance at the time of their internships and other areas in which they would act.

3.3. Licensing and Certification Requirements

Licensing for pharmacists is required in all states. To obtain a license in most states, including Texas, an applicant must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) from an accredited college of pharmacy and pass an examination, known as the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX). The Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) is also required for licensure and assesses knowledge of pharmacy law. Once licensed, before being able to practice pharmacy in the state of Texas, pharmacists must complete a specific number of internship hours in a pharmacy setting under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Additionally, all pharmacists are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education units (CEUs) every two years in order to maintain their licensure. As of 2019, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) has reported that 142 Doctor of Pharmacy programs had been accredited in the United States. Many states have more than one college of pharmacy. These programs are typically four academic years in length and require a minimum of two years of prerequisites prior to admission. In order to be admitted into a college of pharmacy, one must complete specific coursework that is different for each college, although most required courses are universal due to accreditation standards. For example, most colleges in Texas require microbiology, human anatomy and physiology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, microbiology, calculus, and English courses.
